School librarians play a critical role in supporting literacy, but demonstrating that impact can prove challenging. This one-hour, online lightning learning focuses on independent reading as a strategy to grow reading skills. You will explore ways to align choice reading with instructional goals and communicate outcomes to teachers and administrators effectively.

You will leave this 1-hour lightning session with ideas for boosting reading engagement with students in grades 6-12, promoting a school-wide culture of independent reading, and clearly articulating the library’s role in improving student literacy.

AFTER YOU ATTEND THIS COURSE, YOU'LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Articulate how independent reading strengthens students’ reading skills.
  • Identify and implement programming strategies to promote choice reading in grades 6–12.
  • Outline next steps for launching or revitalizing an independent reading initiative in your own setting.

This is an online, 1-hour lightning learning and will include live, expert sessions with facilitated Q&A. You’ll earn one hour of PD credit and a Library Journal certificate of completion.

 

THIS WILL BE A 1-HOUR LIVE SESSION AND WILL INCLUDE

  • Guest speaker presentations by leaders in their field. (All sessions are recorded for on-demand access for six months after the course ends.)
  • Facilitated discussions: Audience participation in Q&A and discussion with guest speakers.

 

ON-DEMAND ACCESS

You will have access to the recording and additional resources for 6 months after the course ends.

 

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

Complete the course and earn 1 professional development credit hour. We provide a certificate that is emailed to you.
