In this opening module, you’ll explore the latest literacy data and examine the critical role libraries play in addressing national reading declines. Participants will reflect on current research and begin envisioning what a vibrant, schoolwide reading culture could look like in their own context.

You’ll begin crafting thoughtful responses that meet students where they are and address real-world constraints.

Module 3: The Power of Programming — Creating Opportunities to Engage

How can library programming spark student interest in reading? What kinds of experiences draw readers in and keep them coming back? In this collaborative module, you’ll join a community of teacher librarians to share and explore ideas for reading-based programs and events that build excitement around books and reading.

Module 4: Bringing It to Life — Designing Your Reading Culture Action Plan

How do you turn good ideas into sustainable action? What does an effective reading initiative look like in practice? TESTIMONIALS

"I feel like this course has been useful for me to understand the challenges that school libraries have in promoting reading to students. It has also been great to see that other schools and librarians have had similar issues with reading in their school communities as well. The only way to find solutions is to figure out what the problem is."

Fall 2025 attendee

"The content of the course has been of great help to motivate me to become a better librarian and has inspired me to find new strategies and activities to develop with our students in order to encourage and inspire them to be better readers for life. The content is relevant and having a space to check out other peers' perspectives has been golden for my understanding of different audiences and how every school is their own ecosystem."

Fall 2025 attendee

"I like being able to hear other librarians' ideas. It helps because I am new to middle school but have been in high school for a quarter century. It is also nice to see that many librarians are in a similar situation, so that has been a great relief to me. The interactions have been positive and the information shared has been relevant and helpful, including the course materials."

Fall 2025 attendee

"The course content has been excellent. There are so many resources that I will be returning to re-read and re-watch as we gear up for another school year."
