This crash course demystifies workplace expectations by exploring professional behavior through a library-specific lens. You will examine common scenarios related to boundaries, accountability, collaboration, and workplace etiquette, with attention to equity and organizational culture.

You will leave this 2-hour crash course with greater clarity around professional norms and the confidence to navigate workplace challenges while maintaining respect for yourself, your colleagues, and your community.

What does success really look like at work? How can you tell what is expected of you beyond your job description? This session will discuss how to interpret, clarify, and demonstrate workplace expectations day to day. You’ll learn what professional behavior means in practice, how workplace etiquette supports strong relationships, and why accountability matters for individual and team success. Leave with practical strategies to build trust as a reliable, effective library professional – skills that will set you up for career-long success.

Session 2 | 3:00–4:00 pm ET

Being a Great Team Player: Collaboration and Workplace Success

How do you collaborate effectively with different personalities and perspectives? What happens when teammates disagree or conflict arises? This session will explore what it means to be a strong team player in today’s library environments. You’ll learn strategies for productive collaboration, communicating with colleagues who hold differing opinions, and working through conflict with professionalism. The session will also address setting healthy boundaries to support respect and balance. Leave with practical tools to contribute confidently, navigate challenges, and strengthen team success across roles and responsibilities.
