Live sessions via Zoom: Emotional intelligence and relationship building are at the center of library outreach, but they also extend into DEI initiatives, safety, and workplace culture. This interactive half-day course will give you the initial tools to better understand how to build emotional intelligence within yourself so that you can create and maintain positive professional relationships in your library. You will leave with tangible ideas for how to gain emotional intelligence, build new relationships, strengthen existing ones, and repair relationship ruptures with colleagues, staff, and patrons. This will be a 2-week online course and will include: 
 *Note: You do not have to complete the asynchronous work during these two weeks; it will be open to you for six months. However, the feedback from facilitators will only be available from October 21-November 4. Expected time commitment If you watch the recordings of all sessions and participate in the asynchronous workshop, you'll spend approximately 2-4 hours per week on this course. You'll earn 10 hours of PD credit and a Library Journal certificate of completion.  Dr. Michele A. L. Villagranis an Associate Professor at San José State University School of Information. Villagran’s research focuses on diversity and social justice in library and information science and cultural intelligence phenomena within libraries. Dr. Villagran earned her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership with her dissertation on cultural intelligence in 2015 at Pepperdine University. She also completed her Master of Dispute Resolution and Certificate of Dispute Resolution with Pepperdine. At the University of North Texas, Dr. Villagran completed her M.L.S. degree in Legal Informatics and her M.B.A. in Strategic Management. She is the recipient of the 2023 ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table Herb Biblo Outstanding Leadership Award for Social Justice and Equality, the 2021 REFORMA Librarian of the Year, and the 2021 ALISE Norman Horrocks Leadership Award.
